FAQ
Is your beef really grass-fed?
Yes. Our cattle are bred, born, weaned, and finished on our own place, on native grass plus a small amount of locally grown rolled peas. Peas are a legume, not a grain. We do source additional steers periodically from vetted ranches that share our practices.
What breeds do you raise?
American Aberdeen and Murray Grey. Aberdeens hang around 400–450 lbs; Murray Greys average closer to 600 lbs. If you'd prefer an Aberdeen-only share, tell us when you order.
Do you ship?
No. We deliver locally in Nebraska and in Colorado, and we offer pickup at four locations. See our Delivery & Pickup page.
How does a beef share work?
When you purchase a whole, half, or quarter beef, your deposit reserves your share of an animal and your place in our butcher schedule. Your final price is based on the hanging weight of the beef. We won’t know the hanging weight until the butcher weighs your animal after processing, so the final total cannot be calculated until then.
Once we receive the hanging weight, we calculate your final price using the price per pound for the share you chose. Our price per pound includes the processing fees. Your deposit is then deducted from that final invoice, so it is applied toward your total—not an additional charge.
Once your beef is scheduled with the processor, we’ll provide them with your name and phone number. The butcher will call you directly to go through the available cuts, how you want your beef cut, and how you’d like it packaged.
After processing and dry-aging, your beef will be ready for pickup or delivery. You’ll receive a variety of steaks, roasts, hamburger, and other cuts based on the share you purchased and the cutting instructions you choose.
We handle the process with you from start to finish, so you always know where your beef comes from and how it gets from our pasture to your freezer.
Then we arrange delivery or pickup.
How is a share priced?
By hanging weight, at a per-pound rate that depends on the share. The price includes cut and wrap fees. The rate for your share is shown on the listing before you reserve.
How much freezer space do I need?
Whole beef: roughly 16+ cubic feet. Half: about 8. Quarter: about 4.
What's in a share?
Roughly 50% ground and stew meat, 25% roasts, 25% steaks. Whole shares run 400–600 lbs hanging weight, halves 200–300, quarters 100–150. These are estimates — every animal is different.
Is the beef aged?
Yes, dry-aged for 14 days.
How long until I get my beef?
We process monthly year-round, and the schedule fills up. Orders are typically ready about 3 weeks after processing.
Can I cancel a share after paying the deposit?
Your deposit reserves you a place on a processing date. If something changes, contact us as early as you can and we will do our best to work it out with you. Once your beef has been scheduled with the butcher and your cut instructions are in, the costs are already committed on our end. Email us and we'll talk it through.
Do you sell anything besides beef?
Yes. Free-range chicken from Flock Yeah, our daughter Paige's operation. Pork by the half or whole, our son Bo's operation. Raw honey from our own hives. Artisan soap made with our own rendered tallow and lard.
